AMC Theatres has pushed back its reopening plan by two weeks — from July 15 to July 30. Can you smell the popcorn in the air? Film fanatics are getting closer to doing what they love best — going to the movies! Next up to announce their reopening plans is AMC Theatres. The theatre chain is set to begin reopening its locations in waves, starting July 30. Of course, it will be a slightly different experience for everyone, but it’s still a welcome sign that summer is officially here.
As of now, AMC Theatres has not announced the specific schedule of when each location will reopen. For updates, click here.
As expected, the script of going to the movies at AMC Theatres has major changes, including the following:
Reduced Auditorium Capacities – Auditoriums will be reduced to 30% capacity or less, based on municipality guidelines. In auditoriums with traditional seating, every other row will be blocked off for safety. In all auditoriums, customers will be asked to leave an empty seat between each person.
Enhanced Cleaning Procedures – Common areas and high touch points will be routinely disinfected throughout the day. There will be extra time between movies, so auditoriums can be properly cleaned. Electrostatic disinfectant sprayers and vacuums with HEPA filters will be used throughout the building.
Social Distancing Standards – Directional signs and reminders will be posted throughout for guidance.
Simplified Menu – Selections will be temporarily reduced to ensure shorter lines and quicker service. In addition, to reduce contact, large popcorn and large fountain drink refills will be unavailable at this time. Items like napkins, lids, straws and condiments will only be available upon request.
Cashless Transactions – Cash will not be accepted at concessions or MacGuffins Bar. At the box office, credit, debit and AMC gift cards payments are preferred to reduce contact. However, cash will be accepted and may be used to purchase an AMC gift card for food and drinks.
Face Covering – All customers will be required to wear a mask. If you don’t have one, you can purchase one for a buck at the theatre.
And, as for its employees and vendors, the new safety measures will be in place:
Daily Health Screenings – Managers and crew will have their temperature read before the start of each shift.
Frequent Handwashing – Managers and crew will be required to wash their hands routinely for at least 20 seconds.
Required PPE – All employees must wear a mask.
