If you’re looking for face masks, and for a way to help support local businesses, here are some Colorado-centric masks from Denver-area designers and shops. Masks are a way of protecting the people around you, in case you’re infected and don’t know it. Now you can show that you care not just for the people with whom you come in contact, but for the Mile High City and Centennial State.

Zoe Pielsticker is a professional costume maker who just moved back to Colorado in February. Her masks come in five sizes and more than 100 fabrics. Choose between cotton ties and ear elastic. Choose moisture wicking lining or cotton lining. Cloth masks start at $10, you may add moisture wicking lining for $3.50 and a filter pocket for $5. Ackerman & Sons

This Littleton company is taking its furniture repair and upholstery skills and using them to make masks. The inner liner is a double layer of medical-grade polypropylene, the outer shell is 100% polyester furniture fabric. These face masks are hand and machine washable in hot water and will not shrink or wrinkle. The adjustable ear loops are made of high quality paracord that may be knotted to fit individual faces.  The company is partnering with the YMCA of Metro Denver to make a donation for every mask sold. Amy Mundinger

Washable 3-Layer 3D cotton face masks made by Boulder fiber artist/quilter Amy Mundinger. Made with the highest quality of quilting cottons and include a layer of cotton batting integrated into the mask — which gives you a built-in filter that washes in the washing machine. Boulder County Farmers Market

Locally made, produce-inspired face masks, including a veggie mix, bing cherries, watermelon, blueberries and more are available to purchase on Etsy for a donation of $15 to nonprofit BCFM. Mask is made with 100% cotton fabric, elastic ear loops, with 2 layers of cotton fabric and a pocket, and a thin florist wire sewn into the nose area for a better fit.

Denver Dachshunds Rescue

Mama Llama masks have a non-corrosive aluminum strip sewn into the bridge of the nose. Now individuals can adjust the mask to their face accordingly. Fabric reaches under the chin for better coverage and to keep the mask from slipping while talking. Because of the aluminum strip, your glasses won’t fog up.

Denver-based Sarah Levy makes masks out of quilting cotton in a variety of sizes. They are two layers, have adjustable ear elastic, one ear saver is included per mask, and she’ll put in a wire at the nose if people want. Filters available for an additional fee. Price is $10 per mask without filter; $12 per mask with filter. Masks can take one to two weeks for completion.

She can also make ones with a clear window at the mouth for those who are hard of hearing and who need to be able to see someone’s mouth when being talked to. Those are $12 per mask and filters cannot go in those.
