Remember that crummy weather we had for 4th of July? So do many communities that were forced to cancel their fireworks shows and a few even rescheduled. Highlands Ranch has decided to light up Colorado’s wintry skies on Saturday, December 16, 2023. The twist? This 30-minute, high-flying show is designed for watching from afar. It starts at 6 p.m. Whether watching the show from your home, business, with friends or just in the general Highlands Ranch area, this display is designed to be seen from a distance.
As this is a large high-level show, it will require Highland Heritage Regional Park to close entirely, so public access will not be possible. This is due to the type of fireworks being used. The show will consist of “high flying” fireworks, which is different than those used on 4th of July.
These fireworks are more powerful, reach greater heights, and are designed to be seen from further away than a typical show. This creates a much larger fallout zone. Therefore, the park must be closed.
In the interest of public safety, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and surrounding municipal law enforcement agencies ask that you plan for and honor road closures as well as the ‘no parking’ signage in the vicinity of the launch sites.
There will not be any parking allowed on the streets in the immediate area or in any adjacent park parking lots for safety reasons. This will help keep the open streets clear for normal traffic and keep the fallout zone clear of obstructions.
This show is weather and fire-restriction-dependent. The main reason for a cancellation would be weather-related or dry conditions. It is not safe to produce fireworks shows in weather elements such as lightning, wind, rain, or blizzard conditions.
If lightning is present within eight miles of the area, organizers are obligated to shut down the show, which was the reason for the cancellation of the July 4 show.
Everyone cross their fingers and toes that the weather cooperates for this spectacular show.
