Experience the ultimate summer adventure with Summer Rec Kidz, Denver Parks & Recreation’s brand-new, FREE day camp for kids ages 8 to 12. The free program runs Monday to Friday from June 10 through August 9, 2024, (except city holidays: June 19 and July 4 & 5). Camp is from 9 a.m. to noon and kids have the option to stay for MY Denver programming from noon to 4 p.m. Registration is required!
Summer Rec Kidz will include weekly themed activities including Outdoor Survivor Challenges, Medieval Times escapades, and fascinating explorations into a Bug’s Life. Campers will also have the opportunity to go on field trips.
Summer Rec Kidz will be offered at: Aztlan, Barnum, College View, Eisenhower, Green Valley Ranch, Hiawatha Davis Jr., Montbello, Montclair, Southwest, and Swansea Recreation Centers.
How do you register for Summer Rec Kidz?
Weekly registration will be available online or in-person at any Denver recreation center. It is open now. Children must be registered for each week they plan to attend. Space is limited. You can register here.
Am I required to register my child for the entire week or one day at a time?
Registration is per week.
What is the drop-in MY Denver afternoon program?
The drop-in MY Denver program is open to youth ages 8-18 with a MY Denver Card, offering youth safe and supervised activities.
Participants registered for Summer Rec Kidz are encouraged to stay for the afternoon program.
How do I register my child for the afternoon session?
Youth with a MY Denver Card can participate in afternoon programs without registration. However, if participants from Rec Kidz plan to stay for the afternoon, they must select “all-day” to indicate session preference.
If you select “morning,” you will need to pick up your child at noon. If you select “all-day,” you will need to pick up your child by 4 p.m.
Will there be field trips?
Field trips are a part of the program, and a schedule will be provided at the beginning of each week, along with permission slips required to participate. Forms must be signed by a parent/guardian and returned prior to the day of the trip.
Will there be pool days?
Swimming days may be included depending on the location and pool availability. Contact recreation staff for details.
Can my child participate at multiple locations throughout the summer?
You may register your child for different locations on different weeks, but only one location per week.
Will food be provided?
Lunch will be provided by the Tasty Foods program at noon, coinciding with the transition from Summer Rec Kidz to MY Denver drop-in programming. An afternoon snack will also be served for MY Denver drop-in participants.
What should my child bring each day?
Participants should wear closed-toed shoes and bring a water bottle, sunscreen, and swimsuit/towel for swimming days (if applicable). Don’t bring toys, valuable items, electronics, or other items from home that could disrupt attention to activities or cause distress if lost or damaged. Sunscreen will not be provided.
Is a parent or guardian required to sign participants in and out?
A parent or guardian is required for drop-off and pick-up unless a “self-sign-out” authorization form is completed at registration. Children cannot be dropped off before 9 a.m. and MUSTt be picked up by 4 p.m. when all activities conclude.
