Good morning! If you thought there aren’t enough “national food days”, here’s another one to add to your calendar. However, this one is very specific! McDonald’s is declaring March 2nd National Egg McMuffin Day. The sandwich was first created in early 1971 by Herb Peterson, an owner and operator in Santa Barbara, California. What started as an attempt to make Eggs Benedict became a breakfast icon: the Egg McMuffin.
Herb is also credited with creating the Teflon rings to give the eggs their perfectly rounded shape—a tool that has inspired other brands around the world.
And exactly how do you celebrate National Egg McMuffin Day? Well, by enjoying the iconic breakfast sandwich, of course.
McDonald’s is celebrating by giving customers a FREE freshly-prepared Egg McMuffin at participating locations. To get yours, download the chain’s mobile app and redeem the digital coupon on Monday, March 2 — from 6 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
