Finding money is always a lovely surprise. However, this Valentine’s Day, it has a whole different meaning. The temporary art installation The Heart of Money is “an experiential street project challenging us to explore our relationship with art, money and the intersection between.” Get ready to fall in love with the Mile High City in a new way this Valentine’s Day!
On February 14, 2024, organizers of the art installation are placing 100 papier-mâché hearts constructed entirely out of U.S. currency around the Denver metro area. See photos of the hearts here.
The hearts are expected to be hidden around the city between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Each heart is made of 100 $1 bills ($100 in total), water soluble glue and red temporary paint, making each one easily deconstructed into the component currency if desired.
In addition, each of the 100 hidden hearts will have a QR code that can be scanned for more information about the art project, as well as an opportunity to share your story of how/where you find your heart and what you did with it.
What do you do if you find a heart?
Deconstruct It
Deconstruct the Heart by soaking it in lukewarm water for about an hour and turning it back into currency. The glue and paint are both nontoxic and temporary.
Keep It
Keep the Heart as is and enjoy it for its artistic value and the story of your interaction with it. You might also hold on to it, considering it may appreciate in value as a piece of art.
Pay It Forward
Gift it, either in Heart form or deconstructed currency, to someone you love, a stranger on the street or an organization near and dear to your own heart. (It’s your money, so you can do whatever you want with it — even keep it for yourself.)
Something Else
The story continues however you want. It’s up to you what you do with the heart. (Just remember that the destruction or permanent alternation of currency is illegal.)
