Latino Arts Project is excited to announce its grand opening of AfroMexican Journey: Yanga, Slavery and Freedom on Thursday, February 20, 2025, coinciding with Black History Month. The inaugural exhibit at Museo de las Americas highlights the Afro-Mexican experience, showcasing the rich cultural heritage and artistic contributions of Afro-Mexican communities. The FREE event runs from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
As part of the celebration, the event will also feature an art talk with featured artist Baltazar Melo, offering deeper insights into the exhibit and its significance.
During this Art Talk, Melo will share insights into his creative process and demonstrate his unique techniques, using unconventional materials inspired by traditional dances, celebrations, and contemporary social issues.
Melo’s art intertwines vivid storytelling with cultural preservation, bringing awareness to identity and justice. Don’t miss this chance to witness his innovative approach to Afro-Mexican art.
