Springtime for teens is all about end-of-year school events. Prom, team banquets, award ceremonies – when we look back as adults, these events are often highlights of our secondary school experience and moments that we reflect on with nostalgia. Unfortunately, many local teens are unable to participate in their schools’ end-of-year formal events because they lack the resources to buy appropriate attire.
Recognizing this, the Library is calling on the community to help give every local teen a chance to make those special memories without feeling out of place.
On Saturday, April 4, from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m., the Longmont Public Library will be hosting a “Say Yes to the Red Carpet Dress” even at which students in grades 6 through 12 can “shop” for free, gently used formalwear and accessories.
In order to make the program a success, the Library needs local teens and adults to donate their gently used dresses, skirts, blouses, shoes, purses, tuxes, sports coats, dress shirts and slacks, and other formal accessories.
Donations can be made at the Library’s Children’s and Teens’ Desk until March 28 on Mondays from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesdays and Thursdays from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., and on Saturdays, March 7 and 21 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Complete details are available here.
All questions can be directed to Children’s and Teens’ staff at 303-651-8477. Aloha Trading Co, 356 Main St. in Longmont, is a generous partner for this program, so stop by and say thank you next time you’re downtown.
