As a family of four, going out to eat gets real pricey, real fast. Worst part, half the time my 9-year-old is still hungry after that $10 (or more) kids’ plate. But now with Mici’s new $2 kids’ meal deal, not only can we afford to eat out as a family, but there’s plenty of delicious Italian food on the plate to satisfy the hungriest of children.
The owners of Mici understand why it’s important to have time dining together with family. After all, it was founded 20 years ago by three siblings, Kim, Jeff and Michael Miceli. The name Mici comes from an abbreviated version of the family name.
As the Miceli families grew, so did their Italian restaurant. Now there are eight locations in Colorado, and some of the those once-little-kids today work for the company, making it three generations strong.
How the deal works: Add on a $2 kids’ meal with the purchase of an adult entree. It’s dine-in only, and for kids 12 and under.
What you get: Most of the menus at the Mici locations prove similar. For kids this means they can pick a bowl of bowtie pasta topped with their choice of Alfredo, marinara, or Parmesan and olive oil.
Or, a pizza with either just cheese, pepperoni or a vegetable. Each order also comes with gelato. Add on a drink like soda, milk or apple juice; and/or a side of grape tomatoes or fresh grapes for under $2.
Bonus reasons to visit: The vibe of Mici’s is extremely child-friendly. For starters, kids love playing with a ball of pizza dough while waiting for food.
Each family recipe gets made with whole, fresh ingredients, including hormone and preservative-free, there’s nothing in their recipes you can’t pronounce.
More about the food: While the kids meals are great, dining at Mici is also good for the parents. No bad pizza here!
In fact, the pizza dough is made fresh everyday with only five, simple ingredients. Each day it rises at the perfect temperature for 48 hours, then it’s baked on a hot stone to create a crust that’s crunchy on the outside and chewy on the inside, the perfect combination.
Choose from pre-arranged pies including the Molto Carne with house-made sausage, hand-rolled meatballs, nitrate-free pepperoni and mozzarella.
Or, sample a white pie that uses olive oil instead of the red sauce. For example, the Pina, a recipe from Zia Pina, straight from Italy with zucchini, fontina and mozzarella. You can also build your own pizza.
Of course, you don’t have to just get pizza either.
The sausage and meatballs comes from a family recipe and made in small batches. The luscious lasagna also comes from the family, and is made with a Tuscan meat sauce.
Make sure to try the creamy pesto, marinara with zucchini noodles (can be subbed for any pasta). Or, go for the Tortellini Alla Miceli, made with Alfredo, prosciutto di Parma and green peas, often a special occasion dish, but yours any day of the week.
Enjoy a hearty salad for your meal or get one to share. There’s also gelato for the whole family, and you can take a pint home if you find you need more for later.
Another boon, while the kids play with dough, enjoy a glass of wine or beer in peace while you wait.
Locations include: Denver (2), Highlands Ranch, Centennial, Parker, Lafayette and Colorado Springs (2).
