If you’re a regular at Safeway, you’ve probably noticed some changes on your shopper’s loyalty card, as well as the grocery store’s app. The biggest change is the re-branding of Just For U. It’s now called Safeway For U, but most everything else stayed the same. Most importantly, there are still all of the digital coupons and personalized deals in your account. Ka-ching!
Oh, one more thing! In addition, customers are now referred to as “members.” Other than that, the changes aren’t too different from the existing loyalty program. except for two significant upgrades for bargain hunters.
Birthday Treat
At the beginning of each month, qualifying Safeway for U members will receive a birthday treat offer (up to $10 value) placed into their account.
To qualify for the birthday treat offer, simply add your birthday (month and day) to your account and use your account to purchase an item in-store or online within the last 12 months prior to redeeming your first birthday treat.
(Note: We tested the offer and received a $5 off offer in our account. However, the reward and/or amount may vary by customer.)
Monthly Item
Safeway for U members receive an offer for a FREE item (up to $10 value) once per month.
To receive the complimentary item every month, add the offer to your account prior to the expiration date specified on the offer.
Members are eligible to receive their first FREE item starting at the beginning of the month following the month in which you registered for Safeway for U.
New Member Bonus
Plus, new Safeway for U members receive a “Welcome” offer — good for $5 off their next online grocery order of $25 or more.

Is the birthday treat added every month or just your birthday month? Also finding where you add it isn’t intuitive – for your readers awareness if you already have an account you have to go to home -then account – then scoll to birthday and add.
Kelly – It’s a birthday treat, so it’s only available during your birthday month. -BKC
the complete changing of the app is a HUGE step backwards. The previous version was easy to use, good layout. It was the only grocery app I liked. Now it is as bad as all the others.
