Have you ever dreamed of going to outer space? Well, NASA is saving a virtual seat for you! Even better, you also get a boarding pass to commemorate the “journey.” There was lots of excitement surrounding the Mars 2020 mission and its Perseverance rover, which carried the names of 10.9 million people aboard. For those who missed the chance to fly their names on Perseverance, NASA is giving them the chance to sign up for a future mission to Mars.
Your name will fly on a future NASA mission to Mars in the mid-2020s. The spacecraft hasn’t been identified, but NASA is taking names now that will eventually be placed on a spacecraft headed to Mars.
The out-of-this-world opportunity does not have a close date yet. A close date will be announced as the mission that will fly the names is identified. That’s a few years away, so there’s plenty of earthly time to sign-up and dream about space exploration.
All submitted names are reviewed, approved and then etched onto a microchip that will one day make the long journey to Mars.
Little space enthusiasts will especially love this virtual adventure. The program just might be a launching pad for little ones to learn more about Mars and space travel.
