For more than one billion people, or 15% of the world’s population, attending a live music event is impossible due to lack of accessibility. That barrier is lifted with the Shine Music Festival on Saturday, August 27, 2022, at Civic Center Park. Two stages will showcase some of the best musical acts around starting at 1 p.m.
Accessibility for all is a real issue. Existing venue infrastructures barely meet the ADA compliance standards and even then, only accommodate those with mobility issues. They typically have a few seats in the front row and limit the number of companions to one or two.
Since 2018, Shine Music, a nonprofit, has worked with various organizations serving the disabled communities to create a space that would allow everyone to attend; a space where people of all abilities can come together and share in the amazing power of live music.
FREE ticket RSVP will be offered through Shine Music partner, Good Elephant, a Denver based accessible ticketing app, which will also provide an event schedule, venue map, food and beverage menus and locations, and adaptive technology signup.
Tickets are now available here.
The Main Stage will feature acts such as:
- The Score: LA based alternative rock duo Eddie Anthony and Edan Dover.
- Denver All-Star Jam: A collaboration of local Colorado musicians.
- Ryan Chrys & The Rough Cuts: 2019 Band of the Year – Colorado Country Music Hall of Fame.
- El Javi: Denver based artist who incorporates elements of flamenco, progressive rock, classical, and folk.
The Hakuna Matata Stage will feature several local band acts such as:
- Float Like A Buffalo: 303 Magazine’s “New Music You Should Know”
- Graham Good & The Painters: 2021 BandWagon Magazine Battle of the Bands winner.
- Damon Wood: Former James Brown guitarist brand-new band debut.
- Bottlerocket Hurricane: Six-piece bluegrass and beyond band.
Plans being incorporated to design this all-inclusive, accessible, and immersive music experience include:
- Full Body Sound will have devices that allow the deaf and hard of hearing to experience the full spectrum of music.
- Feel the Beat will be providing a bone-conduction dance floor that allows the deaf and hard of hearing to feel sound through vibrational energy.
- Braille and large print maps, schedules and menus will be provided for the audience who are visually impaired or blind. We have even incorporated Braille into our merchandise!
- To accommodate the audience with neurological disorders, there will be a sensory tent with noise cancelling headphones and certified therapists.
- Accessible pathways throughout, ensuring easy access to the entire event.
