If your kids bring home more candy than you want them to eat (again) this trick-or-treat season, consider donating the excess to the Halloween Candy Buy-Back. This is a national program in which children bring Halloween candy to participating dental practices in exchange for cash and prizes, usually a certain amount per pound of candy. We aren’t delusional in thinking that most youngsters are willing to give up all of their candy, but they may be more willing when they learn it is sent to troops overseas.
Use the above link to find a participating dentist near you (or give your favorite dentist a call to see if they are participating in some way). The list should grow the closer we get to Halloween. Here are some in the Denver/Boulder area.

Please don’t send candy to troops overseas. There is a ridiculous amount of candy and sweets at deployed locations from October to January. What’s difficult to come by over there is healthy food, particularly healthy snacks. I truly appreciate the sentiment of sending things to overseas service members. This is just an example of unintended consequences.
