Another day, another pop-up drive-in movie theater. This time it’s a biggie and though we have limited info right now, hopefully you’ll find reason to smile next month. Starting in August, Walmart will be providing much-needed family entertainment by transforming some of its store parking lots into contact-free drive-in movie theaters.
Whether or not Walmart brings drive-in movies to the Denver area, you’ve still got options. We have two major drive-in theaters in the metro area — Denver Mart Drive-In and 88 Drive-In Theatre. And there are a number of drive-ins around the state.
Plus, all sorts of shopping center, church and other large parking lots are hosting pop-up drive-in movies. And scroll down for a day-by-day list of upcoming drive-in (and potentially other outdoor) movies around the metro area.
We don’t know yet which Walmart stores will be hosting the movies or if there will be any in Denver-Boulder, but with so many in the region the odds are in our favor. Here’s what we do know, from the press release.
Walmart will be transforming 160 of its Supercenter parking lots into drive-in movie theaters, for a combined 320 showings.
This family-friendly night will include hit movies, special appearances from filmmakers and celebrities and concessions delivered right to customer vehicles.
The drive-in tour will run through October.
Ahead of each screening, Walmart will make it easy for families to fill their picnic baskets by ordering their drive-in essentials online for curbside pickup on the way to their movie.
We’ll be updating this post when we find out if, when and where Walmart will be presenting drive-in movies in our area.
